What about medication vs. psychotherapy?

It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of distress and the behavior patterns that impede  progress.

Treatment of AD/HD symptoms usually includes medication and evidence-based behavioral therapy.  Skills addressed during therapy include improving social skills, decreasing impulsivity, and increasing executive functioning skills.

For treatment of anxiety and depression, studies have shown that cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT) and medication treatments are both effective in treating these disorders  in youth.  Early treatment can prevent future difficulties, such as academic or social difficulties and low self-esteem

Do you take insurance?

We are currently in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and United Health Care for evaluations only. We are out-of-network with all other insurance companies.  If you have an out-of-network mental/behavioral health insurance policy and would like to attempt to submit for potential reimbursement, it is important to find out what your policy covers.  We are happy to assist you by providing receipts upon request.  On a receipt, we will document a diagnosis (if applicable), your identifying information (such as name, date of birth, address, etc.), session information (CPT codes), and payment details.  It is your decision whether to share this insurance receipt with your insurance company.  You should also be aware that if you ask me to complete an insurance form, you are authorizing me to provide the data that is requested.  Any information provided to your insurance company will be part of your medical file.
